From north: Take Route 87 (Guadalupe Parkway) south to Curtner Avenue exit.
Turn left on Curtner. Turn left on Monterey Road (first light after Little Orchard Street).
Cross the railroad tracks.
The office is located on left side of the street (look for the palm tree).

From south: Take Route 87 (Guadalupe Parkway) north to Curtner Avenue exit
Turn right on Curtner.

Parking:
Free parking is available in the rear of the building.

By Bus:
Contact Valley Transportation Authority at (408) 321-2300 or www.vta.org for bus information. The closest cross street is Curtner Avenue. There is a bus stop directly in front of the office at 1887 Monterey Road.

By Train:

Appointments and Interviews
You do not need an appointment for information and/or forms. Information and forms are provided on a walk-in basis. If you only need forms, you may also click here to download forms or request that they be mailed to you. You also may call (408) 885-9950 to have forms faxed to you, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week or 1 (800) 870-3676 to have forms mailed to you. Please note, we cannot give out information on particular cases to a third party, because we must protect the privacy of customers as stipulated in the Privacy Act.

  • Appointment notices for Adjustment of Status interviews are sent out approximately two weeks in advance of the appointment.
  • Appointment notices for Citizenship interviews are sent out approximately two weeks in advance of the appointment.
  • If you do have an appointment please go to our appointments line in the front of the building.
Rescheduling Appointment and Interview

If you are unable to keep an interview appointment, please notify this office as soon as possible, in writing. In your letter, please reference your name, identifying case information, and date for which your interview was scheduled and include a copy of the interview appointment letter that you received from us. Failure to appear for an interview and failure to request rescheduling of an interview may result in the denial of your application.



Walk-Ins

To speak with an Immigration Information Officer, you must get a ticket available on a first-come-first-served basis in the lobby of the office. Only a limited number of tickets is available each day. Tickets are issued after 7:00 AM for same day visits. Please note that you may have to wait several hours until your number is called, depending upon the services requested.

If you cannot wait in line due to a medical condition, please notify the security officers at the front door and provide them with a note from your doctor.

Please note that there is no place to buy food at the INS office. In addition, restroom facilities are only available once you have entered the building. If you are in line and have a need for a bathroom, please notify a security officer.



Change of Address

If you have a pending application with the INS San Jose Sub Office please notify them immediately. Naturalization (N-400) applicants may report their change of address using the National Customer Service Center's toll-free number at 1 (800) 375-5283 instead of having to submit their change of address in writing. Currently, only applicants for naturalization may change their address by telephone.

All other applicants must notify San Jose INS Office in writing. Please complete an INS Form G-14 (Information Form) and send to INS San Jose Sub Office, 1887 Monterey Road, San Jose, CA 95112. ATTN: Type of Pending Application (e.g., I-485, I-130).
